Spa Risk Management
The International SPA Association (ISPA) and the ISPA Foundation, together with the Resort Hotel Association (RHA), partnered to develop a risk management program for spas. There were more than 100 individuals, ranging from spa directors, media and certified risk managers involved in the development of this course.
The risk management program consists of two tools. The first is the Code of Conduct. The code is a consumer's guide to understanding their rights and responsibilities of both the spa and themselves. This information empowers the spa-goer with the rights they should expect at any spa they visit, as well as their responsibilities to ensure their satisfaction, comfort and safety. Spas are encouraged to share the Code of Conduct with their guests and promote its usage.
The second tool is the e-learning course, Risk Management for Spas. This course provides members and the industry with introductory information to manage safer and more effective spa operations for their employees and guests. It also provides education on how to achieve the basic rights that spa consumers are expecting when visiting a spa, such as the right to a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
This course presents education that will allow spa management, owners and staff to make informed decisions regarding their risk. It teaches ways to identify, analyze and control spa risks, while covering the full scope of risk management. The target audience for this introductory course is spa managers.
